A SHORT EXPLANATION OF IDD THERAPY

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) Therapy is a breakthrough treatment for a variety of serious spinal conditions. As a unique form of spinal therapy IDD not only makes ultimate logical sense but its effectiveness has been proven by peer reviewed studies and by thousands of clinical success. Research into IDD Therapy is ongoing at both Duke and Emory Universities and in a number of clinical settings throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

The research studies for IDD Therapy support a 84% to 95% success range for both the lumbar and the cervical treatment protocols. Success is usually defined as a 0-1/10 on the Borg Pain Scale upon completion of the protocols or in some cases a 4 point decrease in the patient’s pain level. Any way you look at it, this therapy is very successful and research supports it’s being extremely safe. That is, it works approximately 90% of the time and in the other 10% of the time it doesn’t work but exacerbations are extremely rare and if they occur they are self limiting. The long term IDD Therapy studies show essentially no recidivism for at least one year following completion of IDD treatment.

Visit North American Medical It is also important to understand that the goal of IDD treatment is not simply pain relief but also healing/curing. IDD therapy begins with a computer controlled distractive force which is specifically applied to the involved spinal level. The frequency, intensity duration and angle of force are all adjustable and vary according to the age, weight, muscularity and muscle tone of the patient; the chronicity, location and intensity of the pain and nature of the pathology(s).

The immediate objective of this distraction is to widen the distance between the vertebral bodies. This creates a negative pressure of approximately -150 mmHg within the disc. This vacuum draws the disc protrusion/prolapse back into the body of the disc where the nucleus can re-center The system also provides a superimposed oscillating movement during peak distraction which increases the flow of water and nutrients vital for the hydration of the nucleus and repair of the annular tears. Thus it is also very effective for degenerative disc disease. Furthermore it disperses the post inflammatory products which are responsible for much of the pain and subsequent muscle spasm associated with painful spinal conditions, The distractive force varies during the treatment and although it is always changing, it never ceases at anytime during the treatment. That varying distraction coupled with the occilation reprograms the proprioceptors of the muscles and ligaments-lengthening and relaxing them and encouraging the normalized positional changes to be permanent.

In summary IDD Therapy re-hydrates and repairs damaged discs. The increased disc space rejuvenates the motor unit, taking pressure off and realigning the posterior vertebral joints and enlarging the central canal and bilateral foramen. This results in more normal disk and vertebral motor unit function, IDD successfully treats degenerated, protruded and prolapsed disks, degenerative joint disease, canal and foraminal stenosis, and up to grade 2 spondylolistheses. It can treat multilevel lesions and is beneficial for failed back surgical syndrome. It is also useful for sprains, strains and muscle spasms.
